Philanthropy :

Re:Vision is focused on compassion, accountability, respect and excellence. Following these values, our doctors provide free eye care for those who would otherwise miss out and actively supports a variety of other philanthropic activities both in eyecare and in the wider community.

A percentage of every operation performed at Re:Vision is dedicated to fund pro bono surgery to those in most need in our community.

So, thank you for choosing Re:Vision – by choosing us for your laser or cataract surgery, you are helping to bring clear eyesight to someone in need.

Re:Vision is grateful for our success, and we are proud to show our gratitude by giving back to our community in providing pro bono cataract surgery for those in most need. Since its opening, Re:Vision’s team has offered cost-free cataract surgery to patients who are denied access to public hospital surgery, cannot afford private, and have a compelling need for vision improvement with cataract surgery.

Many patients are so visually impaired that they are forced to lose their drivers’ licence and cannot perform a job to earn a living. Cataract surgery offers a tremendous positive impact not only for them but also for their families.
We have performed over 50 pro bono cataract operations for our community since we started.

Today, Re:Vision remains committed to delivering an exceptional 5-star experience for every single one of our patients, as their lives are enhanced in a matter of minutes with laser or cataract surgery. We live our WeCARE culture every day and cherish our opportunity to support those in most need in our community.

Charitable community support activities :

  • Free Cataract Surgery with ARCH Aotearoa Charity Hospital
  • Community Care Cataract Programme
  • Glasses donation to those in need
  • Free Laser Vision Correction for Tetraplegics
  • Buchanan Ocular Therapeutics Unit
  • University of Auckland Teaching & Education

Free Cataract Surgery with ARCH Aotearoa Charity Hospital

Re:Vision is closely aligned with ARCH to provide free cataract surgery for those denied access to timely care in the public healthcare system anywhere in the North Island.  We realize there are many patients who don’t qualify for publicly funded cataract surgery but have a need to correct their visual disability and get back to work, to their caregiver role, or to other activities as quickly as possible.  Re:Vision’s surgeons are proud to be able to help our community in this way.

Process :

Optometrists and GPs apply directly to ARCH on their patient’s behalf.  ARCH then assesses if the patient qualifies for free surgery that is funded by Re:Vision.  Re:Vision’s  surgeons provide their skills free of charge and the patients receive exactly the same high standard of care as any private patient would.

Patients receiving free cataract surgery via ARCH are unable to choose their surgeon (like the Public hospital service).

Glasses donation to those in need :

Once our patients have had Laser Vision Correction or Cataract surgery, they happily donate their old glasses for Re:Vision to find new homes (eyes!)That's why we have partnered with Volunteer Ophthalmic Services Overseas (VOSO), a charitable trust that provides free eye aid to the Pacific Islands, helping restore sight to those less fortunate.

So when our patients' lives change, they make a difference in someone else's life - to see, read and drive!

Community Care Cataract Programme :

Many cataract patients have had one eye operated on in public, but are denied publicly-funded cataract surgery to their other eye. A prolonged wait for the second eye, is often dangerous due to imbalanced vision causing difficulty with things like driving.

Re:Vision recognises this significant problem. To help these patients denied second eye cataract surgery in Public, and can’t afford Private, Dr Trevor Gray and Dr Mo offer these patients a significantly reduced cost (lowest cataract surgery price in Auckland). Patients are able to choose their surgeon with Re:Vision’s ‘Community Care Package’.

Re:vision team standing with happy patient

Free Tetraplegic Laser Vision Correction :

There are members of our community that struggle with glasses or contact lenses due to disabilities like tetraplegia.  Dr Gray has provided free laser vision correction surgery for several years to patients who have limited or no use of their upper & lower limbs.   This safe procedure massively changes their lives by returning an important form of independence so they can see clearly without needing for someone else to put their glasses on or off.

University Teaching and Education :

Dr’s Gray & Mo are Clinical Senior Lecturers at the School of Medicine and regularly present to medical and optometry students on their areas of expertise. Re:Vision continues to provide clinical experience to final year optometry students and visiting ophthalmology trainees most weeks.   Re:Vision provides free training seminars and conferences to optometrists and free on-line training resources to support their continuing medical education needs. In addition to their eye-care related philanthropy, Drs Trevor and Caroline Gray support secondary and tertiary students through their Buchanan Charitable Foundation in a variety of ways.

Re:Vision is an extension of Dr Gray’s philosophy in providing others with help & skills to shape their own lives.  We are proud to support these philanthropic activities in eye care and education.  Every patient who comes to Re:Vision contributes to supporting this work in our community, and we are most grateful for this support.
