Here at Re:Vision Sight Correction Centre, we try to make our laser vision correction process as transparent and seamless as possible. We’ve found that much of the time, the patients who do have reservations about the process don’t know much about it.

In order to make the process more accessible, we’ve uploaded videos on YouTube to show people what it’s like to come to a laser appointment here at Re:Vision. In our guide, one of our lead eye doctors, Dr. Mo Ziaei, breaks down the four key parts of the initial consultation, the first step of laser vision correction.

These four parts of the consultation are:

  • Checking your vision
  • Checking your prescription.
  • Checking your eye health.
  • Scanning the eye.

To find out more about our system for screening potential laser candidates, read on.

‍

‍

Step One: Checking Your Vision

‍

The first thing we do during a vision screening assessment is carry out a comprehensive eye exam, to ensure you’re a safe and suitable candidate for LASIK. This step is the one you’re likely to be very familiar with—it involves reading letters on a chart which get progressively smaller. We can learn quite a lot from this step alone, as you’ll see in the video with Dr. Mo.

‍

‍

Step Two: Checking Your Prescription

‍

If you wear glasses or contact lenses, you’re sure to be quite familiar with this part of the process as well. Once we’ve found the level at which your sight begins to struggle, we can start to narrow down on the precise nature of your focusing issues by testing your vision prescription. We do this by asking you to look through a number of lenses that are focused in different ways, and determining which works the best.

We do have access to your listed prescription, but it’s important for us to get it right, so we prefer to double-check this. This is just in case it’s been a while since your vision information has been updated.

‍

‍

Step Three: Checking Your Eye Health

‍

The health of the inner eye is the next thing we look at, and we can do this with a machine called a ‘slit-lamp’. As Dr. Mo puts it, it’s essentially a “microscope with a light on it”, and we can use it to shine light into your eye and see how the eye reacts. It’s very comfortable to use, and only takes five minutes or so.

The slit-lamp allows us to see your cornea, the back of the eye, and it even analyse the quality of your tears, which can be an important factor.

‍

Step Four: Scanning the Eye

‍

Finally, we have a few other machines that can scan the eye, and measure other parameters, like the depth of your focusing issues, or the curvature and thickness of your cornea. A lot of these machines are also very quick to produce a result, as they work automatically.
